If you’re not already familiar with All-City Cycles, you should know that the company specializes in producing high quality steel frames and complete bikes for road, track, cyclocross, and touring. But up until recently, they’ve never offered a flat bar commuter bike for the rack-and-fender crowd. Hence the new Pony Express, a practical and well thought out complete bike that just became available this summer.
The Pony Express uses the same frame as the All-City Spacehorse, which features braze on mounts for full fenders, front and rear racks, and a pump peg. It has internal cable routing, meaning there no brake cable stops on the underside of the top tube to dig into your shoulder when you’re carrying the bike. The rear dropouts are All-City’s signature stainless steel, investment cast, semi-horizontal rear dropouts, which feature an adjustable set screw for perfect wheel alignment. All-City’s proprietary 612 Select double butted chromoly steel tubing is used throughout, and the frame is treated with an ED coating to prevent internal rust build up. As a complete bike, the Pony Express is clean, simple, and versatile. It’s designed around a commuter-friendly flat bar cockpit using Avid Single Digit linear pull brakes, Avid FR-5 brake levers, and a 1×10 SRAM Apex drivetrain with a trigger shifter. These are economical, reliable parts that get the job done, while ensuring many miles of worry-free cycling.
